Brazilian Laser Hair Removal: Sessions, Cost, Pain and What to Expect

TL;DR: Brazilian laser hair removal treats hair across the whole bikini area, front to back. Most people need a series of sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. At Skinfinity Aesthetics, a single Brazilian session is $150, or $900 for 8 sessions. It feels like a rubber band snap, and Nd:YAG lasers are suited to darker skin. Shave before each visit, but don’t wax.

Waxing every four weeks. Razor bumps that sting for days. Ingrown hairs that never quite go away.

If you’re tired of that cycle, Brazilian laser hair removal is probably on your mind. It’s also one of the treatments people feel most shy asking about. Will it hurt? Is it awkward? Is it safe for my skin tone? How many sessions will it really take?

I get these questions every week at my Mississauga clinic, so let’s take the awkwardness out of it.

In this guide, I’ll give you straight answers. You’ll learn what a Brazilian laser treatment covers, how many sessions most people need, what it costs, how much it hurts, and what to do before your first appointment. I’ll also explain why the type of laser matters so much if you have medium to dark skin. By the end, you’ll know exactly what you’re signing up for.

What Is Brazilian Laser Hair Removal?

Brazilian laser hair removal is a laser treatment that reduces hair across the entire bikini area: the front, the sides, and between the buttocks. The laser sends light energy into the hair root. The pigment in the hair absorbs that energy and heats the follicle, so it produces less hair over time.

It helps to know the difference between the common bikini options:

Treatment What it covers
Bikini line Hair that shows outside regular underwear or a swimsuit
Extended bikini The bikini line plus more of the top and sides
Brazilian Everything: front, sides and back, with as much or as little left as you like

Many people choose the full Brazilian because it removes the need for any waxing or shaving in the area once the treatment series is done. You can still leave a small strip or shape if you prefer. Just tell us at your appointment.

How Many Sessions Do You Need for Brazilian Laser?

You’ll need a series of Brazilian laser sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, because hair grows in cycles. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says most patients need 2 to 6 treatments and can expect a 10% to 25% reduction after the first one. Thick bikini hair often takes 6 to 8, which is why our packages include 8.

Here’s why one session is never enough. At any moment, only some of your hairs are actively growing, and each treatment catches a new batch. The AAD explains that most patients can be treated once every 4 to 6 weeks until the series is complete.

The bikini area responds well. In one study focused on bikini hair, patients had an average of 78% hair clearance one year after five treatments, with no scarring or pigment changes.

Your number of sessions depends on:

  • Hair colour and thickness. In my experience, dark, coarse hair responds best.
  • Skin tone and laser type. People with darker skin are often treated with settings that prioritize safety. In one study of darker skin types, the average was 8.9 treatments.
  • Hormones. In my experience, people with hormone-related hair growth often need a few extra sessions or occasional maintenance.

After your main series, a touch-up every so often keeps things smooth. The AAD notes that some patients may need maintenance treatments down the road.

How Much Does Brazilian Laser Hair Removal Cost in Mississauga?

At Skinfinity Aesthetics, a single Brazilian laser session is $150. The 8-session Brazilian package is $900, which works out to about $113 per session. You can see our full area price list on the laser hair removal in Mississauga page.

Many people combine the Brazilian with another area. Here are our current prices before HST:

Treatment Price
Brazilian, single session $150
Brazilian, 8-session package $900
Brazilian + underarms, single session $200
Full face + Brazilian, 8-session package $1,000
Full legs + Brazilian, 8-session package $1,200
Full body, 8-session package $1,999

A few things to know:

  • Consultation: Your first visit includes a $25 consultation and a patch test, so we can check how your skin responds.
  • Packages save money. Since you’ll need several sessions anyway, a package is usually the better value.
  • HST is added on top.

Does Brazilian Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Most people describe the feeling as warm pinpricks or a rubber band snapping against the skin. The bikini area is one of the more sensitive places to treat, because the hair there is usually thick and dark. Still, most people find it far easier than waxing.

A few things make it more comfortable:

  • It gets easier. As the hair thins out over your sessions, there’s less pigment for the laser to heat, so each treatment usually feels milder than the last.
  • Cooling helps. The Clarity II has built-in cooling to keep treatment comfortable.

Afterward, mild redness and swelling are normal. The AAD says these common side effects typically last 1 to 3 days.

Is Brazilian Laser Safe for Darker Skin?

This is one of the most important questions, especially for South Asian, Black and Middle Eastern clients.

The laser targets pigment. In lighter skin, the hair is dark and the skin is light, so the laser can easily tell them apart. In darker skin, the skin also contains a lot of pigment. With the wrong laser or settings, the skin can absorb energy meant for the hair. Researchers note that laser treatment in dark-skinned people carries a higher risk of complications like hyperpigmentation and burns.

That’s why the type of laser matters. Long-pulsed Nd:YAG lasers are widely used for darker skin. In a study of 150 people with skin types IV to VI (medium brown to very dark skin) treated with long-pulsed Nd:YAG, the average hair reduction was 54.3%, and 78.7% of patients rated their results as good or satisfactory.

At Skinfinity Aesthetics, we use the Clarity II Nd:YAG laser, and every new client gets a patch test first. For a deeper look, read my guide to the safest laser hair removal for dark skin.

Ingrown Hairs and Razor Bumps: Can Laser Help?

For many people, ingrown hairs and razor bumps are the real reason they book a Brazilian. Shaving and waxing can both cause hairs to curl back into the skin, leading to painful bumps and dark marks.

Laser helps by reducing the number of hairs that can become ingrown in the first place. The research on the bikini area specifically is limited, but there’s good evidence from a similar problem on the neck. In a study of people with skin types IV to VI who had stubborn razor bumps, an Nd:YAG laser reduced bump counts by 91.2% and dark marks by 59.5%. The authors described this as a significant temporary reduction, so ongoing treatment matters.

In my experience, ingrown hairs in the bikini area usually start to settle once the hair thins out over the first few sessions. If you also deal with inflamed hair follicles, my article on laser hair removal for folliculitis goes into more detail.

How to Prepare and What to Avoid

Good preparation makes your treatment safer and more effective. Here’s what to do:

Serious side effects are rare, but burns, permanent skin colour changes and scars can happen. Choosing a medically supervised clinic and following your aftercare instructions greatly lowers the risk.

The Bottom Line on Brazilian Laser Hair Removal

Brazilian laser hair removal is one of the best ways to get off the waxing and shaving treadmill. Plan for a series of sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, often 6 to 8 for thick bikini hair. At our clinic, that’s $900 for an 8-session package, or $150 per single session.

If you have medium to dark skin, ask any clinic which laser they use. An Nd:YAG laser and a patch test are the safest place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Brazilian laser hair removal permanent?

It gives long-term hair reduction rather than a guarantee of zero hair. The AAD says most patients don’t see hair on treated skin for several months or even years, and some need occasional maintenance. You can read more about whether laser hair removal is permanent.

Do I have to shave before Brazilian laser?

Yes. Shave the area before your appointment, but don’t wax or pluck. Experts advise you to avoid plucking, waxing or electrolysis because the laser needs the hair root in place.

Can I get Brazilian laser while pregnant?

It’s best to wait. Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy because there isn’t enough safety data. You can start or resume your sessions after pregnancy.

How long does a Brazilian laser session take?

It’s quick. Small areas take about 15 minutes, while larger areas take longer. You can see typical session times in the FAQ on our laser hair removal page. Your first visit takes a little longer because of the consultation and patch test.

What side effects should I expect?

Most people have mild redness and swelling that lasts 1 to 3 days. Rarely, burns or skin colour changes can happen, which is why darker skin tones should be treated with a suitable laser like Nd:YAG and a patch test first.
